Wait for your client to bring up the issue of thinning hair. Negate your client’s feelings about thinning hair. Get too medical during your consultation. Talk excessively about how bad your client’s hair is. Complain about your client ’s hair texture. Speak negatively about hair-thinning products.

DISCUSS & EDUCATE
Here are some useful conversation starters you can use:
Have you noticed any changes in your hair recently? Does your hair or scalp feel too oily at the end of the day? Do you find hair in the shower drain, in your hairbrush, or on your bathroom floor?
What don’t you like about your hair?
When wearing your hair in a ponytail, has it lost its volume? How does your scalp feel? Does it feel tight, dry, or itchy?
WHAT TO LOOK FOR There are certain indicators to be mindful of when evaluating hair loss and thinning. Men and women exhibit slightly distinct indicators. Here is a visual handbook that will assist you in identifying the signs of hair loss or thinning that your customer might be experiencing.
Is your customer frequently finding a significant amount of hair in their hairbrush? Typically, it is normal to lose between 50-100 hairs per day. However, if your customer has been consistently experiencing excessive hair fall for more than 3 months, it could be a sign of thinning or hair loss.
SPOTTING THE SIGNS OF FEMALE HAIR LOSS & THINNING
When evaluating your customers' hair, gently comb through the hair to determine if there is an escalation in hair shedding. It is normal to observe some hair fall, particularly after shampooing, but if there is an excessive amount, your client might be encountering hair loss and thinning. This condition can be triggered by factors such as childbirth, flu or illness, dietary changes, and even stress.
Begin by examining the hairline and temple regions. The initial indications of a potential problem arise when women experience thinning around their hairline. This occurrence is quite prevalent following childbirth, flu, or illness, and it can even be triggered by stress.
WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF FEMALE HAIR LOSS?
If you observe a discrepancy in hair density between the underside and the top of the head, it could indicate potential thinning and hair loss. Factors such as menopause, aging hair, or underlying health issues may contribute to this change in hair density.
Is there a noticeable amount of short fine hairs near the scalp when observing closely? If you spot numerous short, fine hairs when lifting or blow drying the hair, it could indicate potential hair loss, prompting the need to take action to promote a healthy hair growth regime.
Have you or your customer observed a widening part or increased visibility of the scalp? Is the scalp easily visible through the hair? These are indicators that your client may be experiencing hair loss, which could have developed gradually over time. Recognising these signs early is crucial in order to assist your client in managing and minimising the impact.
SPOTTING THE SIGNS OF MALE HAIR LOSS & THINNING
Male hair loss presents itself in a slightly distinct manner compared to female hair loss, although there are some shared signs. Typically, male hair loss is more concentrated around the hair line and in the crown area.
Begin by examining the hairline and temple regions. The initial indication of a problem is often seen when men experience thinning around their hairline, a common occurrence that can manifest as early as 20 years of age.
Is the hairline in retreat from its initial position, indicating the onset of an ‘M’ shaped hairline? These are clear indicators that a man may be undergoing hair loss and thinning. Despite potentially overlooking these signs, it is crucial to address the question of whether there has been a change in your hairline.
Hair thinning in men can also occur on the crown, resulting in the scalp not being completely visible, but there will be a noticeable alteration in the texture of the hair. Are there shorter and finer strands of hair? Does the hair in this particular area grow to the same length as the surrounding hair? These are all indications that a man may be encountering hair loss and thinning.

THE SCALP HEATH CHECK
As a part of the Nioxin in-salon experience it is essential to provide a scalp check. This is a great opportunity for you to take a closer look at your customers scalp and asses their scalp health, thinning strands and use this as a starting point for follow up appointments.
THE NIOSCOPE EXAMINATION AND METHOD FOR USE.
Start by detangling the hair using a brush to eliminate any knots. Then, create a neat, straight parting in the hair and place the Nioscope on the scalp. Begin the examination at the hairline, following the natural part and temples. Continue to the crown and occipital area. This will aid in recognising variations in hair thickness and density, as well as obtaining a clearer view of the scalp's overall condition.
THE NIOSCOPE IS A CLINICAL DEVICE designed to magnify the scalp surface helping you assess the scalp in an advanced way.
To commence analysing the scalp, effortlessly configure the Nioscope with your smartphone or tablet device. It is imperative to present your customers with real-time images during the consultation process. This will enable them to visually comprehend your explanations and be astounded by the post- treatment images, which vividly demonstrate the remarkable transformation from before to after.
Ensure that you capture and store images during the initial examination to effectively display the before and after treatment images. Once you have completed a Nioxin Dermabrasion treatment, follow the same procedure to visualise the achieved results, providing your customer with an impressive experience. Additionally, the utilisation of the Nioscope is highly advantageous when your customer has been using a Nioxin regime at home, as it allows them to witness the progress they have made between appointments and track their Nioxin journey.
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF WHAT YOU MAY SEE DURING THE SCALP HEALTH CHECK
EXCESS BUILD-UP OF DEBRIS & SKIN CELLS – The accumulation of excessive debris and skin cells can lead to clogging around the hair follicles, which in turn affects the health of the scalp and the growth of hair. SCALP SCALING/FLAKING AND INFLAMMATION – Scalp inflammation and flaking, along with redness, may result from scalp sensitivity or itchiness. Treatment will be necessary to address the flaking.
EXCESS BUILD-UP OF DEBRIS & SKIN CELLS – The accumulation of excessive debris and skin cells can lead to clogging around the hair follicles, which in turn affects the health of the scalp and the growth of hair. DRY SENSITISED SCALP – Dry and sensitized scalp refers to a condition where the surface of the scalp appears pink and dry. Clients may describe it as a scalp that feels tight and itchy. DRY SHAMPOO BUILD UP – Excessive usage of dry shampoo can lead to the accumulation of product residue, which can clog the hair follicles and suffocate both the hair and scalp. DANDRUFF – Dandruff is characterised by an excess of silver-white scales or flakes on the scalp. It is important to remove and treat these flakes in order to manage and prevent the worsening of the condition.
WHAT CAN I SEE? WHAT AM I LOOKING AT WITH THE NIOSCOPE?
This is a demonstration of a well-maintained scalp, free from any debris or accumulation of oil and dead skin cells, appearing nourished and moisturised without any signs of inflammation. The hair strands are also free from any residue or product build-up. Such a healthy environment provides an ideal base for the growth of strong and vibrant hair.
EXCESS BUILD-UP OF SKIN CELLS –
Accumulation of excess skin cells can impact the health of the scalp and the growth of hair when they are not properly washed away as they shed.
EXCESS OIL ON THE SCALP & SKIN CELLS – An abundance of oil on the scalp and skin cells can signal a thinning of hair, as an oily scalp suggests a decrease in hair density, resulting in less absorption of natural oils.
DERMABRASION SCALP TREATMENT As a part of the Nioxin in-salon experience it is essential to provide a scalp check. This is a great opportunity for you to take a closer look at your customers scalp and asses their scalp health, thinning strands and use this as a starting point for follow up appointments.
After finishing the development time, it is crucial to rinse the Dermabrasion scalp treatment thoroughly until the water runs clear. This step ensures that all the treatment is completely removed before moving on to shampooing. Following this, cleanse and condition the scalp using the Nioxin scalp cleanser and scalp revitalising conditioner. Shampoo the scalp and hair twice, leaving the shampoo on for 1-2 minutes. Then, apply the scalp revitalising conditioner from the scalp to the tip of the hair strands and leave it on for 2-3 minutes.
After towel drying the hair, it is now the appropriate moment to administer the scalp and hair treatment included in the Nioxin system kit. Divide the hair into sections and directly apply the treatment to the scalp, gently massaging it throughout the lengths and ends. Proceed by incorporating your preferred targeted treatment, such as Nioxin Diaboost or Nioxin Anti Hair Loss serum, in a layered manner to optimise the outcomes and increase the overall hair and scalp benefits.
Once you have completed the scalp examination and taken photos, you can proceed with the Dermabrasion scalp treatment. Ensure that the hair is smooth and easy to detangle before starting. Have a clean comb and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on hand to ensure safety for both yourself and the client.
Apply the treatment directly to the scalp rather than the hair. Proceed in a straightforward and systematic manner, similar to how you would apply a colour. To ensure complete coverage of the scalp, work through the sections in the opposite direction. This technique will ensure even distribution of the product, creating a grid-like pattern.
The hair is now prepared for blow drying and styling. Utilise the Nioxin Styling products to incorporate lightweight style-enhancing texture and density to the hair or opt for your preferred styling products to enhance the overall appearance and texture of the hair.
After completing the dermabrasion application on the scalp, proceed with the massage. Gently press on the scalp using your fingertips and move in a slow circular motion, paying attention to the hairline, temples, crown, and nape. Massage for 1-2 minutes to activate the formula and ensure it is evenly distributed into the scalp. Once the massage is done, let the dermabrasion process for 10 minutes.
Remember to utilise your Nioscope for a second time to capture the post- treatment results of the dermabrasion procedure. Display the results on the screen for your customer and emphasise the condition of their scalp prior to the service by showcasing the before and after images. This is an ideal opportunity to establish a personalised home care routine for your customer to uphold the results at home and manage hair loss and thinning effectively.
Creating a customised routine is crucial for attaining voluminous, thicker hair. Educating your clients on the significance of consistently using the Nioxin system at home will assist them in reaching their desired hair goals. Just like a proper skincare routine involves cleansing, moisturising, treating, and using specialised treatments, a Nioxin regimen follows the same principles. RECOMMENDING A PERSONALISED PLAN

SELECTING THE RIGHT KIT IS SIMPLE Choosing the appropriate kit for your customer is straightforward. Begin by determining whether their hair is experiencing light thinning or progressed thinning. The most effective way to make this determination is by assessing if the hair has decreased in density to the extent that the scalp is visible through the hair. If the scalp is visible, they require a progressed thinning set; if the hair maintains good density and the scalp is not easily seen, then the light thinning set is the ideal choice. Next, consider whether the hair is natural or has been chemically treated. If your customers hair is untreated, it is best to recommend a Natural kit. However, if their hair has been chemically treated, is dry, damaged, or falls under curly or coily hair types, they will need more moisture, making the coloured, dry or damaged kit the ideal choice.
